Choosing the right wedding theme

What is a wedding theme and why you need one

You might be asking yourself what even is a wedding theme and why do I need one!

Well let me tell you a theme can be a great way to make sure your wedding day is a reflection of you. If you are more of an outdoorsy country couple then a rustic theme could be just the one to help your wedding day dreams come true.

A wedding theme can also help with your planning process. Once you have a theme then you have the framework your whole wedding will work around. A theme helps get an idea of color schemes, venue location, decorations, and desserts, all the way down to invitations.

Themes can be a fun way to express your uniqueness as a couple. I’ve seen weddings that are Star Wars themed or literary themed because the couple met through a book club! A theme can be as intense or minimal as you want remember this is both of your day no one else’s choose a theme that fits right with you as a couple.

A theme is a great way to get an idea your whole wedding will be based around and is a great way to showcase your love story!

Types of wedding themes

There are many wedding themes to choose from not counting ones you could fully make up on your own.

As I mentioned above I’ve seen literary themed wedding where the cake was a book and the centerpieces were library cards with the table numbers on them.

Your theme is unique to you as a couple and should be a reflection of your personalities.

Some common wedding themes are

how to find the perfect wedding theme

Rustic

This theme is going to be centered around Western and country-style folks. The main theme components are whisky barrels, burlap, mason jars, wood signs (especially pallets), typically outdoor settings like a barn/shed, and is focused around colors derived from nature.

Whimsical

Twinkling lights and lots of loose greenery are the focal point of a whimsical wedding. Throw in some lanterns, pillar candles, or candelabras and you’ve got the perfect mix of whimsical and fairytale. Bright florals can also be a part of a whimsical wedding mixed with lace for some elegance.

Beach

A beach wedding is mostly seen in the beachier states or a destination wedding [image]

The use of driftwood, seashells, starfish, sand, light color pallet or very bright tropical blues paired with no shoes is the perfect combination for a beach wedding theme. The food could also be ocean inspired but Ii would highly suggest thinking that one through before you are serving fish to your guests!

Fairytale

Much like the whimsical theme the fairytale theme offers great elegance to a wedding. Gold, carriages, castle venues, poofy dresses (with sparkles of course), and lots and lots of florals say fairytale with a capital F! Set the enchanting scene with mood lighting and elegant calligraphy for your signage to really drive the theme home!

Glamorous

Think BIG, never enough sparkles, and the never enough mentality! Glamorous wedding themes are just that glamorous. Jaws drop with the crystal chandeliers and clear chairs that almost look like diamonds. Almost club like lighting, lounge area, fancy stationary, and signature drinks can all be components that make your wedding theme fit the glamorous category.

Boho

Pampus grass, flowy lace dresses, earthy neutral colors, and free-spirited clothing all showcase the gypsy style that is incorporated into the bohemian style. Animal hides might make an appearance as well as special little trinkets that are special to the bride and groom that showcase their traveling souls.

Garden

Think lots of florals, string lights, bright wildflowers or elegant roses and hydrangeas, lots of greenery and pastel colors. White tents are also popular for garden/backyard-themed weddings. Using antique-looking silverware and glasses also adds that whimsically garden vibes to your wedding.

Minimalist

Minimalistic weddings don’t have to be drab. In fact, they can be one of the most beautiful themes to pick if that’s what suits you. With this theme, lots of neutrals are miked with other neutrals such as blacks with greenery or light taupe and wood colors. Simple elegance is also the vibe for this theme so having a geometric focal point or alter to stand in front of is icing on the cake. Clear acrylic signage is also a main component of a minimalist wedding theme. If all these sound like you then minimalism might be your go-to theme!

Winter Wonderland

Be prepared to get transported to the most magical winter land with the winter wonderland wedding theme! Think lots of faux snow, frosted decorations, lots of crystals, and sparkles, feathers can even be a fun addition! Color palettes range from purples and blues to a bright red especially if your wedding is close to Christmas! This theme is absolutely perfect for your winter wedding!

Romantic/Traditional

This theme is going to be similar to the glamorous theme but with a different wow factor. Guests will be blown away by the sophistication of your wedding with the use of lush florals with a light color pallet, candelabras, chandeliers, greenery, and twinkling lights, all tied together with whimsical calligraphy. This theme definitely gives you that dreamy fairytale feel!

What Is The Best Theme For A Wedding

Now that we have gone over some different types of wedding themes you might be even more overwhelmed. And that’s okay it is easy to get overwhelmed when there are so many decisions coming at you.

I would think that not all ten themes jumped out at you (or maybe they did) but make a mental note of the ones that stood out to you so you can take a break and revisit the ones you like after you’re less overwhelmed!

Or maybe you already know the exact theme you are going to pick, great

Knowing what theme you should pick should be a feeling in your gut that just says “Yeah this is the one!”. You shouldn’t have to him haw back and forth or try to please others (link engagement planning) for what they want. You should just know what theme will showcase your love for each other and your styles the most!

The best theme for your wedding all depends on your mood and what you envision your day to look like. Do you see low-key and trees or high-class glam?

A theme will also depend on the time of year obviously if you are getting married in a winter month a beach theme might not be the best choice unless you are doing a destination wedding!

Ultimately the best theme for your wedding will scream you and your hubby to a T!

I hope this post has helped narrow down your search for a wedding theme! It has been so much fun revisiting all the themes after already choosing mine for my wedding! No matter what theme you pick I know your day will be absolutely beautiful and filled with so much love!
